Day 16 - Rasterized and Vector images

Rasterized images

  • made of pixels. A pixel is the smallest single element in a digital display.

  • measured by PPI (Pixels Per Inch). The more pixels packed into one square inch, the higher the resolution or clarity of the image will be.

  • images with a high density of pixels appear sharp while images with fewer pixels per inch i.e low resolution, appear blurry.

  • Rasterized images have three popular file formats - JPEG, PNG, GIF.

Vector images

  • resolution independent.

  • every piece of the image mathematically calculated from one point to another.

  • do not lose quality when scaled to any size.

  • SVG is an example of a vector image file format.
