Day 20 - Design Systems

A design system is a series of reusable elements and guidelines that allow teams to design and develop a product following predetermined standards. Visual styles, guidelines, UI components, and support code for developers are the elements of a design system.

A visual design system includes elements like components, colour, typography, iconography, copy, animation, layout, etc.

Benefits of a design system

  • Increases efficiency with the use of reusable, repeatable components and patterns across teams

  • Creates visual consistency in designs across a brand’s products

  • Serves as an educational tool and reference to onboard new designers in a team
